Bendigo Detective fakes documents to withdraw complaints
Samuel James Miller, 36, a Bendigo Detective Senior Constable faked documents from victims of crime claiming they wanted to withdraw their complaints. Among them was a 14 year old boy who was an assault victim.
Miller attempted to excuse his actions by claiming that the three victims were uncooperative and this frustrated him. He was further frustrated at Victoria Police processes that he thought were cumbersome and that by faking these documents he was saving time!
An internal investigation, found that Miller recorded in an investigation file that the 14 year old boy had recanted his statement and that the incident was “most likely a disputed drug transaction”.
Victorian Detective Senior Constable will now be fired
Miller, who joined the Victorian Police in 2006 has been suspended without pay and will now be sacked. County Court Judge Phillip Coish, who was hearing the case, ordered Miller to complete 100 hours of unpaid community work.
