Common assault (domestic violence), contravene AVO: Police v HDB

Common assault (domestic violence), Section 61 Crimes Act 1900 – contravene AVO, Section 14 Crimes (Domestic and Personal Violence) Act 2007 – charges withdrawn – defendant discharged

Facts:

HDB is the subject of an apprehended violence order. He was charged with breach of that AVO and common assault following an altercation with his former partner – the protected person – during which it was alleged that he squeezed her neck.

Outcome:

The charges against HDB were withdrawn before the hearing began. As such, the matter was finalised and HDB was discharged.
