Drug Possession arrest and charges: DPP v KM

Drug Possession; Section 10 Drug Misuse and Trafficking Act 1985; Dismissal of Charges; Good Behaviour Bond

KM was charged with possession of cocaine and ecstasy in two separate counts. A conviction would have had debilitating consequences for his burgeoning career as a medical practitioner.

KM pleaded guilty. The focus of the plea was placed on his good character, his excellent reputation and the impact of a conviction on his livelihood and the community expectation. The charges were dismissed with no recorded conviction.
