Bailed but unlawfully imprisoned for 6 days : BSJ v State of NSW

The Plaintiff was remanded by the Local Court of NSW in respect of a criminal matter. He went into detention at a correctional centre.

Later that month, he appeared before the Local Court through Audio Visual Link (AVL) and got bail. He requested release from the corrections centre, as he was granted bail. Yet, the police refused to release him. The Plaintiff did not get release from custody until 6 days after the granting of bail.

We sue for unlawful imprisonment
