Teaching career saved, after client charged with possession of drugs at a festival
Sniffer-dog indicates possession of drugs at festival
Sam* attended a music festival on the Central Coast of NSW. She had been given a free ticket by a friend who also provided her with an MDMA.
While at the festival, a sniffer-dog operation detected that Sam may be in possession of a prohibited substance. After cooperating with police, Sam was arrested and charged with possessing a prohibited drug.
At the time of the arrest, Sam was in her final year of a teaching degree and a criminal conviction would jeopardise her efforts in pursuing teaching as a career.
Outcome: Non-conviction order
Sam pleaded guilty to the charge of possessing prohibited drugs and the matter proceeded to sentence.
