After completing her Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts (Economics) from Macquarie University in 2014, Fatima pursued her Masters of Law majoring in Human Rights and International Law at the University of Sydney.
Following graduation of her Masters, Fatima completed her coursework and was admitted to practice in 2017.
During and after her studies, Fatima gained a plethora of experience in the law working at Slater & Gordon, Mills Oakley, Bird and Bird Lawyers, Public Interest Advocacy Centre (PIAC), Maurice Blackburn Lawyers, Salvos Legal Humanitarian as a Volunteer Solicitor and as Tipstaff/Associate to the Deputy President of NCAT, Acting Judge Boland.
Fatima began working at the North Australian Aboriginal Justice Agency (NAAJA) in Alice Springs in 2018 and continued through to February 2020. At NAAJA, Fatima was a solicitor with their civil law section, providing culturally sensitive legal services (including legal advice, minor assistance and casework) in a broad range of civil legal areas including Police and Prison Accountability, Discrimination and Human Rights, Housing and Tenancy, Social Security, Consumer and Debt law, Employment, Adult Guardianship, Privacy law, Complaints, and statutory compensation.
In 2019, Fatima was crowned Non-For-Profit Lawyer of the Year, and Women in Law Excellence Award at the Women in Law Awards.
Current Practice Area
At O’Brien Criminal & Civil Solicitors, Fatima engages in a range of civil work.
Fatima practices:
- intentional torts against NSW Police and other organisations;
- historic sexual abuse against institutions;
- NCAT proceedings including fair trading matters; and
- general civil litigation in all jurisdictions.

Fatima has a direct and empathetic approach to her legal practice. With her passion of human rights evident in her post-graduate studies and previous experience at NAAJA, Fatima is a keen advocate for her clients.
With her experience in the Northern Territory, Fatima is passionate in pursuing police accountability. From unlawful arrests to assaults and batteries, Fatima has been instrumental in our most prominent cases within our firm.
