Sydney Protest Arrests: Reports have emerged of multiple arrests and alleged excessive force at Tuesday’s Sydney protest outside the Indo Pacific International Maritime Exposition. Our firm reaffirmed its longstanding commitment to defending the right to protest and protecting individuals from unlawful police conduct.
Our Civil Lawyer, Megan Kirk, attended the protest in person, documenting the day’s events. Kirk shared images that captured the intense police response and the determination of demonstrators exercising their democratic rights.

A Pattern of Policing That Demands Accountability
The firm’s public stance comes amid growing concern over the escalation of police tactics at public demonstrations in New South Wales.
At the protest on Tuesday, police deployed pepper spray and made twelve arrests, with both officers and protesters reporting injuries. The demonstration, organised by the Palestine Action Group, sought to highlight opposition to the involvement of major weapons companies at the government-supported expo.
For O’Brien Criminal & Civil Solicitors, the events echo a troubling trend seen in recent months, including the widely reported Hannah Thomas case. In this case, a peaceful protester, Thomas, suffered serious injury to her right eye during an arrest at a Belmore demonstration earlier this year.
“A deeply troubling example of what happens when the rule of law is set aside by those sworn to uphold it.”
Continuing the Fight for Justice
The firm’s message to protesters is clear: if you have been wrongfully detained, assaulted, or subjected to excessive force by police, you have legal rights and avenues for redress.
Our lawyers have a proven record of holding authorities accountable and representing clients in high-profile civil rights matters, including claims for assault, battery, false imprisonment, and misfeasance in public office.
O’Brien Criminal & Civil Solicitors will continue to stand with protesters, journalists, and citizens whose freedoms are tested in moments of public dissent.
Remember,
“The law must protect citizens, not endanger them.”
