Sophie Leaver

Civil Solicitor


Sophie completed an undergraduate degree in Arts and Languages at Sydney University, before moving to Scotland to complete her LLB at the University of Edinburgh. She has since worked as a legal caseworker at a London-based legal charity specialising in human rights and European Union Law. She has also worked as a research assistant at a children’s rights network focusing on the application of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. Following this, she moved to Jackson, Mississippi where she completed an internship at the Mississippi Office of Capital Post Conviction Counsel, an organisation that provides representation to indigent clients on death row. After moving back to Sydney, Sophie completed her Practical Legal Training at the Refugee Advice and Casework Service, working in the legal clinic to help provide advice and assistance to people seeking asylum. Sophie then worked for a year as a Tipstaff to a NSW Supreme Court Justice, providing legal and administrative support in a broad range of civil and criminal matters. Sophie joined the civil team at O’Brien’s this year and has a special interest in representing clients in cases involving historical sex abuse and police misconduct.
