Defamation in the nightly news broadcast

Clients defamed with claim of animal cruelty

A major Australian News outlet published a story in their nightly news which alleged that our clients killed and tortured an animal. The story was also posted online. Subsequently, our clients received a stream of hatred from their small local community.

The story was incorrect. The animal had, without their knowledge, become stuck in the undercarriage of their car. They experienced a great deal of upset when the report came out and they saw the footage. The news organisation made no effort to contact our clients to hear their side of the story

Defamation lawsuit ends with payment and apology

After considering a lawsuit for defamation, we settled the matter with the news organisation for a reasonable sum of money and an apology.
